I made yet another quilt... I'm sure it's getting old by now.

I do really like this one though. It's made using Circa 1934 fabric by Cosmo Cricket. This is such an awesome line. For the pattern I used Kitchen Window from Elizabeth Hartman's book The Practical Guide to Patchwork.

For the outer sashing I used a chambray that gives an awesome pop to the inner fabrics.

On another note, school started back up today... reminding me once again why I hate it so much. Yay!

Sprocket Pillow

I've been wanting to make a sprocket pillow from this tutorial for a while now.

I love the ones popping up all over the internet that people have made. Mine however has pom pom ribbon... (add in evil laugh).

However I don't suggest doing this, it was hard. I chose to alternate pink and blue while using some of my favorite fabrics. I really wanted to make it rainbow, but I'm trying not to buy new fabrics right now and I didn't have a pretty purple. Maybe next time.

I used some Nicey Jane for the back, and I'm not all that in love with it. But it's on the back so I can live with it.

Do you like my new blog header??? I love it. I've been reading this book and it is so awesome and inspiring. Because of this book I bought a custom etsy shop, blog banner, and business cards from this awesome etsian. Within 3 days everything was finished and the communication was excellent. I'm not ready to set up a shop anytime soon, but it's still nice to have everything ready!

Only Rainbows

I made myself a little inspirational wall hanging. A few months ago I was driving home from an incredibly terrible day and Andy Grammer's "Keep Your Head Up" began playing. When it hit the lines "Only rainbows after rain, the sun will always come again" it made me realize exactly how true it all was. After any little breakdown, bad week, or hard time I hit, a rainbow will always come.

For this mini quilt I borrowed One Shabby Chicks method of letter applique. I love the style it creates, and I don't think you can tell but I quilted in little raindrops around the words.

I am so completely in love with this piece, and will hopefully wake up every morning knowing that a rainbow will eventually come.

Break Over

Breaks, over... I enjoyed two wonderful weeks visiting my family in the states. Sad as I am though, it feels really good to be home. Even if i'm suffering terrible jet lag and my new sleep schedule is from 3 AM to 1 PM. I've decided to take a break from showing you some of my crafty awesomeness in this post and show you some of my grandmothers. Whenever someone new enters our family (baby or spouse) a stocking awaits there arrival.

How on earth she is able to knit these I shall never understand. I have an extremely hard time working two sticks while tangling yarn between them, and often my attempts involve one needle shoved between my legs, and the other somehow knotting up the yarn I paid too much for on account of it being shiny.

Yet my grandmother has managed to make over 50 of these stockings in her lifetime. Each of them perfect, and a special memory for anyone lucky enough to receive one.

And my favorite part... the bells adorning the bottom of each stocking for a little Christmas Cheer!

I hope your holidays were just as warm and memorable.

Pink and Red

Remember this? The fabric assortment I bought forever ago while visiting in Munich? Well I finally turned it into a quilt.

Okay, I'm finally blogging the quilt, I actually made it last year.

I had to mix in some other fabrics with it since it turned out to be a fat eighth bundle and not a fat quarter bundle. The pattern is one from ohfransson and was very simple.

The Nicey Jane print on the back matched perfectly.

My sewing machine died last weekend, not even 30 minutes later I was online ordering a new one. This is the one I was using so i'm not bothering to get it fixed. I'd probably end up paying more fixing it then what I did buying it. I ordered this one. Hopefully it works! But in the meantime I'm stuck working on non sewing machine related projects like this.

Art & Espresso

The store held another Art and Espresso last weekend, and this time I was actually prepared! Here are some photos of my table.

That pink tree is Tonya's with all of the cute ornaments she made. But I will be needing one because it looked so good on the table.

Two of the main things I made were once again using Keyka Lou patterns. I whipped out several of her camera wristlets and laptop cases, and I think they turned out adorable.

I also managed to make taggie blankets, crayon rolls, tissue holders, baby blankets, and jewelry.

And here is my new jewelry display.... Jennifer gave me the idea a long time ago and I haven't been able able to get it out of my head. Thanks Jennifer!

Little Apples Quilt

It's done! And I love it. The fabric is Little Apples by Aneela Hoey through Moda. I love her fabrics and can't wait for her next one to come out. Sadly The last line didn't go over too well in the store (I think I bought most of it) but hopefully this one will do better.

The pattern is called "A Penny For Your Thoughts" by The Teachers Pet, I think (it may be vice versa). The Pattern has the same 3 or 4 fabrics used all throughout but I was able to squeeze everything out a single layer cake with a couple yards of sashing.

Ditty Bag and Apples

A while back Beth kindly hinted towards wanting a hot pink mermaid make-up bag. To prove that sometimes and I can be nice I made her one.

Now i'm really jealous of it. The pattern is by keyka lou and if you haven't already bought from her I highly recommend you do. Her patterns are easy to read, you can sell your finished projects, and they're cheap.

The fabric is Mendocino by Heather Ross with some basic blue polka dots. And just because I threw on a crystal and a little octopus charm.

Today my day looks a lot like this if things go well. Hot Chocolate, The Middle, and sewing up some Little Apples finally. I'll show you the finished quilt soon (as in the top part...)

Also I'm going to try really hard to start blogging again, and commenting on everyone else's posts. Sorry about being the silent stalker for the past forever. Oh, and email everyone I owe emails to!

Wee Woodland Quilt

Just in time for fall is my wee woodland quilt. These are not my usual colors at all, but I love this quilt soooo much that i've already bought more of the line.

Fabric is Wee Woodland by Keiki for Moda and I can't remember at all what the pattern is called but it is by Aby Quilts. Where's your website Aby?

The binding is an American Jane pindot in yellow, I go through this fabric so fast.

I baked! This is a chocolate oreo cheesecake.

That topping is supposed to be white, but if you know me then you know I love my food coloring.

The recipe is by Hershey and if anyone even really cares I'll send it to you if you ask. (oh, yeah, I really made this like two months ago... and I haven't baked since.)

Mary's Quilt

Mary! Your quilt is done... and in only a year! For those of you who don't know Mary look here. Mary, you really should get your own blog one day...! Anyway, my friend Mary needed a quilt... she is cold, and cold people need quilts. That's why I have so many... sorry to everyone i've forced to turn off the fans over the years. Especially you Jennifer. I really should stop blogging if I can't get to the point, or the pictures. So here is the first one.

Point 1: Mary likes pink and green.

Point 2: Katelyn likes lots of animals and critters (gnomes count).

Point 3: Happy compromise. (I had to enjoy making it)

Point 4: We have an awesome quilt.

Point 5: Another back shot because I pieced it.

Take a look at the quilting on this.

It was a pain in my butt because I actually spent time on it, and my back was killing by the end of it. But it was completely worth it. In point 1 you can see the little flower that I put between each of the blocks too. So Mary I hope you like your quilt, and I hope I chose a really good day to give it to you.

Octopuses and Firsts

Octopuses = a slight obsession of mine. In second grade I became fascinated with sea creatures thanks to a teacher who took us scouring the tide pools of Okinawa. She was passionate about the critters and taught my class everything about them (that a second grader needed to know). Of these creatures octopuses were my favorite, so what else would I do but make another stuffed one?

This little cutie was created by Melly and Me for the Moda Bake shop. You can find his pattern here. I however decided against the jelly roll and used some of my favorite Tula Pink Neptune fabric (perfect for the theme, huh?).

I'm showing the bottom because I had to stuff and hand sew each of those legs shut. I'm surprised I finished him!

And there were eight of them! But I guess that's common for an octopus...

Now for a first... I'm actually blogging something the same day I made it! Kelly, a couple of other lovely ladies, and myself got together and sewed us some pj pants today. These are mine... I'm ready for Christmas early this year...

Last off i'm not big on showing pictures of my dog on here (i'm pretty sure that's not why you read it) but this made me smile last night. Apparently it IS perfectly normal to fall asleep on your favorite fabrics...

The Little Things

I've been making a lot of little things lately (as in the past year) all of which I haven't shown off. So this post is dedicated to the little things. First off is my camera strap, blue polka dots, animal ribbon, and a ruffle. What could possibly feel better than taking pictures with this around your neck. I found a free tutorial on line for it here but there are many other great ones out there as well.

After seeing these pillows I had to make me one. I already had the focal fabric so it was just a matter of spending the time. I love how it turned out and it really brightens up a room!

And the back, a little katie jump rope.

Have you seen this shop? She sells the best and cutest patterns. I made this camera wristlet from one, and it has been the handiest little thing ever.

I used a linen blend red riding hood fabric from kokka (i think) and it fits my little camera perfectly. And the best part... it matches my wallet! I really love this fabric... I think I need it in the other colorways.

And finally... I've started something I've been wanting to do for a really really long time. Here's a little sneak peek.

Dusting Off the Ole Blog

Sorry for the very long and unintentional blog break. The bad news is that I haven't been crafting at all until just a couple of days ago. The good news is that I am now completely caught up on my movies! because that is all I have been doing. I am back to my sewing space though... see.

Recently I bought an ugly cork bulletin board for my wall space since I had just been tacking things to my wall. And since I can't do plain, boring, and ugly, I made it me.

I had to use black model paint for the frame since acrylic wouldn't stick and there was no way I was going to sand. I then mod podged on the hilco mushroom fabric (you can get some here) and put some "every thing looks better with pom pom trim" on it. And I love it! Yesterday I decided to finally join in on the Farmers Wife Quilt Along.

Very late, but I am having a lot of fun with these little block. Here is what I've made so far.

The Massive Orange and Blue Quilt

So forever ago I decided it would be a brilliant idea to make myself an orange and blue quilt. Of all colorways this one is my most favorite (for sure). I set aside a few of my favorite fabrics (mainly fishy Heather Ross fabrics) and began working on my little unaware labor of love. After completing a few blocks I thought "Hey, I should have each outer block a different fabric!" dumb idea. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find 100 different blue and orange fabrics that work well together??? Okay, you don't care... but it all worked out okay because I now have this luscious quilt.

As said each outer block is a different fabric and the size is king I think. It's Huuuuuggggeeee!

I used a wool batting for the first time, and if it wasn't so expensive I would use it in all my quilts, because it feels amazing!

I decided to go all out on the backing and bought a ton of princess and the pea fabric from Heather Ross' Far Far Away collection. So this sucker is double gauze and feels amazing!

So all in all I LOVE this quilt and have been sleeping under it every night for a couple of months now, well worth the time pain and money put into it.

And just to make a long post longer (if your anything like me you won't be reading anymore and instead just skimming the pictures) I have a little moral for everyone. I got mad today and stated "I need to take a drive" next thing I knew I was two hours away at the Heidelberg craft shop purchasing this awesome fabric.

I'm a huge Tula Pink fan and apparently felt the need for a little bit of retail therapy. So the moral is never say "I need to take a drive" because you never know what will happen.

Raw Edge Circle Quilt

I feel like all i'm ever posting are quilts. It's funny because I have hardly been doing any quilting at all. I'm very much into clothing right now, although having a hard time competing with Kelly. But as it is, here is another quilt. I made this one last summer, and am only kind of "eh" about it.

I am loving these colors right now though, everything I make consists of brown, blue, green, orange, and sometimes yellow.

The tutorial I used can be found here. It's a raw edge quilt, which I like but the lazy way I quilted made the edges flip over.

For the backing I used an awesome polka dot by Jennifer Paganelli. It's miss-matched a little, but I think it works since the front is so busy.

Warm weather is finally sticking around, so hopefully I'll be willing to take some photos of my new clothes. But we'll see...

My Munki Munki

As many of you probably know, I've been collecting Prints from Heather Ross' Munki Munki Pajama line for quite awhile. Yes, it's totally a fad thing, and it reminds me of beanie babies every single time, but the prints are so cute that I can't help it. So I have finally turned all these prints into this quilt.

It took me forever to find a great pattern, A lot of people have been doing square in square types, but I wasn't caring too much for them. So I finally settled on this tutorial. I think it's perfect.

I still Have plenty more of this fabric, so you'll probably see more of it pop up in all my projects, but not in another whole quilt. However I do love the one I have.

I'm Baaaaack!

Can you believe that I almost forgot I owned a blog? (Well not really..., especially with these ladies constantly telling me how long it's been since my last post) But i'm back, and maybe (but highly doubtfully) back at full force! I have excuses... really I do... like for example... did you know that my whole top row of letter keys have stopped working on my laptop? except the "P", I can type all the "P"'s I want with no problem! So the solution? Buy a wireless keyboard and be the loser with two keyboards in front of her laptop screen. That's okay though, because I can now comment on all your all's lovely blogs when I feel like it (sadly the keyboard was a good excuse for a while, now i'm just lazy...)! I know you don't care.... so on to the crafty!!!

This is my over-a-year quilt project, and I made it a full on baby quilt size! Impressive...! But really this quilt is super small maybe a yard in size (lazy much...? here is where I should walk over and measure it)?

However, I am in LOVE! All that rainbowey goodness is just too much to handle!

The back is Momo It's a Hoot owls. Love these little guys and the colors were perfect. That's probably the real reason I waited so long to quilt it... I had to wait a year for this specific fabric.

Enough Craftiness, back to me! I traveled again! The first time in almost a year! It was a week long trip through Budapest, Vienna, and Salzburg. Rather than do a whole post, that you may or may not want to read, on it, I'll let you have an optional check it out Here. When I moved to Germany the top three places I wanted to see were Budapest, Vienna, and Prague. I did it! This means I need to find new top places! I should be back later this week with more awesomeness! (I spent the afternoon taking pictures!)

More Softies

I've made more softies!!! This time I used the wee wonderfuls patterns. All hand sewn again is first up the snail.

I love him! The shell is... wait for it....

BATIK.

Yes I know... sorry you sad batik haters out there. But the colors in this fabric was perfect for the shell, and the fact that it's double sided makes it even more perfect!

And moving on... we have the turtle!

Made with more wool felt and wildwood fabric that Jenny gave me when I quilted her quilt.

Stuffies

Lately my biggest thing to make has been little soft stuffie toys. Whether they are made of felt or fabric, I want them all! I've also discovered a love for hand sewing. For any of you who know me, you know that i've always said that I HATE hand sewing. But recently It feels like all I want to do is sit on the couch and make critter after critter of little hand sewn felt stuffies. So first up is an octopus. I love octopuses! I know they creep many people out, but I LOVE THEM! This one happens to be purple (could there be a better color for an octopus?). He's made out of some wool felt from the shop and little green sequins. If you want to make a little octopus for yourselves it's a free tutorial over here

Next up with my stuffie obsession is an owl pillow! You can find the pattern here if you want one too! I tried to stick with some gender neutral/boyish colors and I took forever picking them out! But i'm so happy with the results and love him!

P.S. Do you like my new curtains. Not much of a view of them, but i'm so happy with them! It's one of my favorite fabrics!

Getting Back on My Feet

Wow. So after feeling like I've been punched in the stomach and knocked down, I'm finally on my way to recovering and getting back up. Sorry if it seemed as if I'd fallen off the face of the earth but I think I may be back more often again! I won't bore you with the silly details of my currently drama filled life, but instead bore you with the drama of my ancestors life! Yay...! So, in my last post I mentioned my family once owning a castle, and today I'm here with proof.

Once upon a time, in land far away (well not too far from me now) there lived a happy swiss family in a happy castle. These happy people called themselves a swiss translation for "bird of prey". A good name for my old family, very intimidating and superior (like me...!). well, these happy intimidating superior people mistreated there peasants who worked very hard for them. Sadly the peasants grew tired of being mistreated and decided to revolt against the poor birds of prey kicking them out of the castle. This made the happy, intimidating, superior, and now poor people very sad. So in an act of desperation the "birds of prey" decided to change there once intimidating name to the very peaceful "peacock"! Yay! With this new name they confronted there once peasants and asked if they would once again work very hard and let the peacocks have there castle back. Sadly the peasants thought this was a bad idea and sent my dear ancestors packing. Filled with shame, desperation, and a keen sense of adventure they soon left for the great America and many many many years later had me. yay again! Because, since they had me, I was able to go to this now crumbling castle of mine to take pictures to share with you. (Are you still reading? because if this was anyone else's story i'd be long zoned out!) So to spare you, on to the pictures!

Day 5

Today I wore my Amy Butler Liverpool tunic made out of Denyse Schmidt's Hope Valley. These pictures aren't from today but rather a few weeks back by Jenny .

But I switched it up a little today and wore it with these...

And since I got my jewelry all put back away I thought I would show you how I store it and all my headbands.

My brother and sister-in-law gave me a dress form necklace holder covered in butterfly's, and since they're not my thing I decoupaged it in some paper Jenny brought me from Scotland.

I decoupaged and hooked an Ikea mirror for my necklaces...

and combined some Ikea frames lined with tulle for my earrings. I'm a little shamed to show how many pairs I own.

And finally, I've started an online photography class through school and here are a couple of my favorite shots while wandering through the front yard.

I'm off to Switzerland tomorrow to see a castle my family owned a long, long, long time ago, so hopefully I'll be back with pictures and a story to share!

Darn, second day in and i'm already regretting doing this. Today I wore a modified version of the the torii tunic by serendipity studios. It's made out of jennifer paganelli's bell bottom line and accented with Tula Pink's nest fabric.

Note to self: stop taking awful unflattering photos at night by myself, and remember to ask someone whose good with a camera to take pictures. But you live and learn...

Self Stitched September (day 1)

Okay, so while i'm not a "real" participant in the Self Stitched September (mainly because who has time to read rules and fill out questiony things...?) I thought i'd still do it and try to post my stuff everyday this month that i'm wearing. Sadly, today, I wasn't thinking to take pictures until I got home tonight close to 11:00. So this is the best I could do...

(I swear that's the camera angle and wrinkles and not just my huge looking belly...)

It's the schoolhouse tunic I blogged about a couple of posts ago out of the Little Folks voile. Therefore i don't feel so bad for posting an awful photo of it. I did think to lay out a quilt though! That should get bonus points, because it means you don't have to see my thread, bead, and glitter covered pink rug!

P.S. I found my solution to the lamp posted below...! here is how the discovery went.

Me: I made this adorable lamp a couple of months ago, but look... I messed up and it's upside down and unusable.

Mom: let me see... (looks at it)... Katelyn, that's no problem at all. (unscrews light bulb, puts lamp shade on, screws light bulb back in.) see!

Me: (blushing) I feel stupid. And thankful to be living in a world full of brilliant people who can fix these things for me.

So now the lampshade no longer falls off the bulb while sitting on it, and alice is standing up right. Who could have known that lamps really work that way?

A Lot of Decoupage

I finally got around to making my second fairy tale lamp! This time it's Alice in Wonderland.

I love how it turned out!

At least I would have anyway.... But this is why you should never craft with a cold (aside from sneezing all over the project...)

I also had time to redo my Ikea drawer thing.

I had it brightly painted, but decided it would look better with some simple decoupage. I used some of my favorite ever basic gray scrapbook paper (Almost out too... sad).

One Man's Trash...

How on earth could anyone rid themselves of this little treasure?

But lucky for me they did. Browsing the thrift shop the other day I found this for only two measly dollars! So taking off some stickers (that I was able to just peel off with no stickiness left behind) and slapping on a fresh coat of paint, I got this!

Adorable, huh? Wouldn't this just be the perfect addition to a little kids room?

School House Tunic

Luscious Green Yummy Anna Maria Horner Voile came into the shop and I bought some! Amazingly enough it didn't just sit on my fabric shelf... I actually made something with it! With the School House Tunic craze kicking in everywhere I decided to join in. So that yummy luscious green voile became this:

The original pleating in the tunic wasn't too flattering on me, so rather than take the whole thing back apart to omit them, I decided to sew them all the way down. I really love the little bit of detail it adds, not to mention the fact that I don't look like a balloon!

Not too crazy about this last open mouth photo, but it shows how the sewn down pleating looks. The scary laugh is thanks to Corinnea and Kelly who put me through this crazy photo shoot. Lots of fun though!

Aprons

I made some aprons! I love them, and think that they're really cute.

I based them off of the Emmeline Apron but made several modifications, and lined them with some lovely white muslin.

They now live in my old shop that I'm slowing going to try and restock.

Also, after reading this post and becoming super interested in the ladies necklace I've decided to start listing where I've found my jewelry. So first up, I got this little beauty that I'm wearing here.

Little Red Riding Hood.... A Lamp.

I am in LOVE with this lamp! Love it, Love it, Love it!!!!

And if you don't think it's absolutely adorable, then you must be a dead fish!

Because just look at that little wolf on the attack...

The lamp was the last one that I found in the shop. It was old and ugly and in the sale section. But I rescued it! Jenny had made one a long time ago which opened me up to the idea of doing one, but it wasn't until we got these new stickers in the shop that I had to make it.

Oh yeah, can you guess who I went shopping with???

Elephants!

After seeing everyone else make Heather Bailey's adorable little stuffed elephants, I had to give them a try. I used some boy fabrics so that I could send them off to my nephew coming this fall. And as it happens his mom is a big elephant lover!

Now, don't judge. These poor little guys are my first attempts at stuffed animals and I think they turned out pretty darn cute. They're super easy and addicting to make, but they do have lumps and bumps, some showing stitches, and they are a teensy bit crooked.

I couldn't do the whole tiny fabric tail thing, so I stuck some ribbon on their butts instead. I think it's kinda cute, and way easier. So all in all I love them and definitely recommend them to anyone who wants to give some stuffies a try!

Berlin.... Finally!

Since I haven't had a lot of crafting time lately I thought I would post some long overdue Berlin photos. I went with my friend Daphne (no blog) to this marvelous city last month and had an amazing time. So on to the pictures...!

First up is this gorgeous museum we toured that I can't remember the name of (there will be a lot of that because it's been over a month, and I don't write things down...) But isn't it beautiful?

Second is this important building (don't ask me why or for what... because I don't remember...) But it was an excellent place to sit in the grass and look at it because everyone else was!

We saw many gorgeous churches but here's only a couple:

This next one is to show you one of my hundred skirts I've made. It's out of the new Anna Maria Horner Voile. And It also shows my awesomely dorky Berlin hat I paid too much for. But it was warm, and made me feel more like a tourist!

And look who I found while we were there! Jenny! I've linked to her trip if you want the proper names of these places. She has a memory... unlike me.

Then of course I saw Charlie's Checkpoint and the Brandenburg Gate.

Mushroom Necklace

I've combined my two loves! Fabric and jewelry.

This cute little necklace is using some cute Heather Ross spoonflower fabric sealed in a filigree cabochon base.

I might make some more to put in my empty etsy shop that's using up unnecessary cyber space... but it depends on whether or not there's interest. I would also do some gnomes, fish, and other cute things. What do you think?

...well at least her fabrics. And her newest line On A Whim 2 demanded a new baby quilt from me.

I used a dark brown Kona cotton for the background and fussy cut all the lovely critters to scatter around.

The pattern is from the "Take Two and Add A Few" book. And just a couple more photos for cuteness affect...

For the backing I slapped on a luscious chocolate brown minky and a polka dot binding to finish it.

Alot of Birdies

Before I begin, a big ole thanks to Jennifer who took all these pictures for me. I lost my camera for a whole week, but I found it again, and in a very obvious place too...

First up are a couple of Birdie Slings I made from the Amy Butler pattern. I really love this purse...(which might be why I've made four). The first one is out of the super cute matryoshka fabric that Jennifer gave to me forever ago.

Matched with green stars and Anna Maria Horner polka dots, its my bag of envy.

The brooch is a hand knit one that I found while in Edinburgh and immediately fell in love with.

My second birdie sling is made out of Tula Pink birdies. Just for fun... and apparently because I felt deprived of bags.

I borrowed the handle idea from Jenny's bag, although I don't think she showed any of the tape measure.

Finally in case you didn't see them on Jennifer's blog, we made some spool sewing birds for the shop .

They were really hard to photograph, but look really cute hanging up.

And mind you, I could have fallen and died while trying to hang them, so they better be appreciated.

I'm heading off to Berlin tomorrow! So I should have a lot of lovely photos to show off when I get back!

Weekender

As promised, here are some pictures of my new weekender bag that I finished just in time to take on my trip.

I used the county fair line by Denyse Schmidt, and just love the colors and patterns. I wish I had some helpful tips to give about making the bag. Unfortunately all I can say is that I'll never make another one... ever.... for as long as I live. But I wish the rest of you the best of luck when you attempt to make one!

I have a new photo program so I'm playing around with the photo editing. I'm not sure what I think about them yet, I need more practice... that's for sure. (Isn't she the cutest dog?)

And finally whats a zipper without a zipper pull? I got this one from the shop because it was just destined to belong to my weekender.

But I do have some awesome photos to show off!

I took a trip last weekend to visit my good friend Jenny who is lucky enough to be attending the university in Edinburgh, Scotland. I had the most amazing time and have to show off some of the amazing things I saw.

First up are the ruins of St Anthony's Chapel. That's all I know about it, but it sure was a pretty place for our picnic!

Next is the beautiful castle. Being cheap/broke college students we opted not to go inside for the full tour, but it was still fun to see!

And here's a street view of the castle...

And the super cool telephone booths up against the castle... I love them!

Next is just an the amazing view of the city while watching the sun go down (and freezing our butts off...)

And finally just a necessary snapshot of the two of us. (I made Jenny take the picture because I only ever manage to get one person in the photos with my skill.)

3x6 quilting bee

So I decided to try out a recently started quilting bee over on flickr called the 3x6 sampler bee. The basics behind it is I'm in a group with 6 other people and using our own stash and block design we create a 12.5 inch block for each person. Here is what I came up with:

If your interested in getting the basics of a quilting bee and only want a short term commitment I really recommend this group. Sign up now for the next quarter if your interested. I don't think I'll be doing it. I realize that i'm not good with the pressure of trying to make things that I hope the other person will like.

The Bold Red Quilt

After a full year of having this quilt in progress, it is finally done.

Well to be honest... It's been done for a couple weeks, I just haven't felt like taking pictures...

But I love it, and it's going to my grandma for her birthday, and it's a couple weeks late... because I haven't felt like taking a picture of it...

Here's what I'm wearing today. It's not at all my style, but if you make something, you have to wear it.... even if it is a skirt... and there's six inches of snow outside.

I used this tutorial, and it really was super easy. Give it a try if you find the time.

In warmer news... I made a baby blanket. Just a really simple one with adorable owls on the front and a flannel back.

But it's the ric rac that makes it so adorable if i must say so myself.

That was a very long and unintentional blog break. The good news is that i'm back at it and should be at full force for the new year! I have several new quilt tops and blouses that i've created over the past couple of months that are ready to be photographed and shared.

But for now i'll leave you with one of my latest creations. A new wallet made out of absolutely adorable red riding hood fabric.

This one is mine, all mine.

And it holds my lack of money very nicely...

Finally finished is I think my all time favorite quilt. Just a cute little colorful log cabin baby quilt.

The inspiration came from here.
I love all the little hidden critters in the centers and strips, and the bold solid colors.

I pieced the back mainly because I had that backing fabric, but not enough.

So I used up the scraps from the quilt so it would fit.

Isn't that binding just perfect for it?

Blogs Make Me Sick...

It seems as though every time I blog about something I'm sick. So therefore my blog makes me sick... no? Anyways, at least I accomplish things when my blog makes me sick. In fact it seems like it's the only time I ever really finish anything. This time it was my jacket.

The pattern is called the Uptown Coat by Favorite things. When it came in the shop Corinnea and I were the first to grab them. I just now finished mine, and she just now finished her fourth one... she makes me feel real good about my small procrastination problem. But, anyways, here it is.

I used some charcoal colored corduroy for the outside, and the lining is my favorite print from the American Jane Recess line.

I finished it yesterday morning and have only taken it off to sleep ( put it back on as soon as I woke up), It's by far the most comfortable piece of clothing I own. Not only that, but this is the first piece of clothing I've ever finished! Motivated by this I decided to finish a blouse I had long put away... and let's just say that it will never ever see the light of day.... back to small steps.

I really really do.....

It was one of those "everything go wrong" ones. I think it's too busy, I wish I had used a solid brown. The blocks are all different sizes, and the wrong size since my math is sooo bad!

I do like the back though.....

I thinks it's cute, but.... look closely and...

Yup! It's bad. I wasn't paying attention to the long arm tension, so it left me lovely little brown lines all along the back. And to make things worst, my machine completely screwed up on one side of the binding, so I had to do it over.... But it's done now! Oh, and the fabric line is called Mercer Street by Hoffman fabrics, I do love this line.

On a happier note.... I am now the proud new member of the pay it forward movement.

Adrienne passed it on, so now I get to make three lucky people who comment first (and have blogs) something handmade. I have 365 days to get it to you (which gives me plenty of time to learn your likes and dislikes). You commenter's will then have to do the same for three other lucky people on your blogs!

Getting Ready

I've spent my weekend getting ready for this.....

So I've made these....

I think I've finally "perfected" (which to me means "good enough to not be tacky") it... yay!

and I've put together a few more pieces of jewelry...

I made up this headband this morning and wore it all day! I love it! But the funny thing is when I walked in the shop today Lizy had already made some herself! Another "great minds think alike incident". Unfortunately I'm now thinking too much into it, and am wondering if maybe she had told me she was making them, and I had just done my smile and nod thing, while not listening.... Sorry Lizy!

And lastly I broke down today....

I've been staring at these earrings for two months now while at the register. Today they were shinier and prettier than ever.... so I bought them...

They are some of Jenny's and I love them like all her other stuff! So if you don't have something Pearlswirl then you have some explaining to do....!

Late Late...

I think that I have finally caught up on my gift making. This mini quilt is late for someone's birthday. Sorry about that. But hopefully the cuteness of it makes up for that. I had had this planned way back when I started my spider web quilt because I new you really liked them.

I used a lot my (And I think yours too) favorite fabric to add to the overwhelming cuteness of the mini. Hope you like it!

And second I have some cute little makeup bags using amy butler's stash and dash purse pattern. These are for my two cousins and aunt who found me some munki munki pj's in the states, and were sweet enough to mail them all the way to Germany for me.

So I just had to use some of the munki munki print to give back to them...

Twisted Coin Quilt

It's finished! My bright and bold Kaffe Fassett quilt.

I'm almost completely positive that this is my own pattern and that i've never seen it anywhere before. If i'm wrong tell me so I can give proper credit!

I used fabrics from his cobalt color way line and paired them with a really really pretty pinkish purple kona cotton color.

I'm in loooove with it, and I think it's because it's completely different from my usual style!

I headed up to Heidelberg today for the "bazaar", but secretly the real reason I went was to see the craft shop. I've heard mixed reviews about the place and was very interested in checking it out myself. So now that I've been there I can honestly say that it was absolutely Awesome!
The fabric section was wonderful, and I truly believe it was one of the fastest hour and half time periods ever spent! So now for the loot!
I found Tula Pink's ladybugs! So I had to buy them in every colorway they had....

I found a couple of pez prints from Wee Play's Peas and Carrots line....

And NEPTUNE!!! I love it! And to think that I was jealous of Deana's Jelly roll!

And I have some good news! I'm finally at a point where I can sew again! (use up some of the fabric I bought, hopefully) And to prove it here is a little sneak peek of what i've started (and almost finished!).

Mental Health Day

I took one of those yesterday! It was for my own sanity.... I hadn't been able to sew in what seemed like forever. My mom commissioned a chicken quilt from me a few months ago for a friend. So I started it but (probably because it wasn't for myself) set it aside to finish later. But the top is finally complete!

I just randomly cut out chickens and formed blocks around them and sewed a bunch of white sashing in between.

Not really my colors but all in all I think it's kinda cute!

All the fabric is used from the metro market and mingle lines by Robert Kaufman.

Sick

I'm sick. Chills and aches and whatnots. I'm not sure what's wrong but I haven't been sick since this project. So I spent my day on the couch watching movies and did a little crafting. And what did I accomplish? Three yo-yo brooches. Their cute, but not very productive...

Also here is the reason I've been absent from blogging recently.

It's not just because life has become really busy, but also because I chose to do a very time consuming project. I've spent a month on this spiderweb quilt and it isn't even baby quilt size yet...

Poof, Tom Tom, Puff, Tim Tim, or as Amy (Butler that is) prefers to call it... My new Gum Drop Pillow. And I love it!!!

It was so fun and super easy to make, almost instant gratification in my opinion after working for so long on those quilts.

The only thing that I changed was she called for only one end topper, but I though It would look at bit more professional if I went ahead and did both ends. And I really do think that it made a difference.

My fabric choices were totally inspired by this and if it weren't for that picture, I probably never would have made one. But i'm telling you now, there will be many, many more in the future.

Two new baby quilts finished! These are totally my style too!

What could be better than an Amy Schimler critter in the middle of each square?

On the back of the first one are the Recess tape measurers (some of my favorite), and the second one has some awesome polka dots from Jennifer Paganelli's Bell Bottom line.

Sadly enough this quilt originally started out as a larger quilt for myself (big animal geek), but half way through I discovered that my cousin was going to have a kid. So I HAD to cut it in half, one for him, and the other one for some other lucky person out there!

Garden Party Quilt

This quilt has taken forever to make. well not forever... I finished the top last fall, but the binding was just put on last week.

Anyways I love it. it's bright and cheerful. The whole thing is made using Garden Party by Anna Maria Horner. One of my favorite fabric lines out there.

The binding and the backing is just that solid yellow. very simple and boring for such a bright quilt.

My Own Thing

I've been dreaming about making a wallet for a while know, but just recently had the guts to do one. So after ALOT of trial and error i've finally come up with this.

It has a change pouch, 2 money pockets, and 6 card pouches. I'm really happy with it but I still need practice with the bias tape (you can tell by looking at the bottom middle of the change pocket).

After realizing that I could do this, I decided that it couldn't be any harder to make my own purse as well. I was right, and this only took one try.

Kara's Baby Quilt

Here's the quilt that I made for Kara . I think she is as in love with anything animal as I am, so I figured an animal quilt would fit the theme perfectly.

I used ikea baby sheeting for this cute little baby quilt. You can see the original fabric on the back. Isn't it adorable?

As sad as it was to say goodbye this one, I figured that the soon to be little guy might enjoy it more than I would.

Since i'm still a little sickish (actually just too lazy to do anything else) I decided to make a baby quilt.

I made the log cabin blocks and stuck to the same color for each one. I like it, but I like most things I make... (full of it? yes)

I was inspired by this quilt, but decided to add in a little bit of orange.

I really hate being sick, but the one good thing that comes out of it is stuff like this...

I can waste my whole day crafting without anybody saying anything. So what I did accomplish was my new black and batik quilt. I love quilts with white sashing, but every once in a while I love making one of these.

I used the Jelly roll book again with one of the bali pops, and created this "log cabin disappearing star" quilt.

So first of all I must say that the hail started AFTER I got home today. Only by 5 seconds, but it didn't hit me. So how great is that after a wonderful, wonderful weekend in Munich?! I'm a little tired from all the walking we did, but it's a good tired. Jenny had mapped out all the craft shops we needed to visit. So we walked, and walked, and walked until we saw almost everything on the list, plus all the gorgeous historical buildings as well.

Also to show off the lovely antique sewing machine that sits in the living room....

Have you ever had one of those days when you know you should have just stayed in bed? Well, that was my week. Almost everything went wrong. I should have known once i hurt my finger (which now has a huge chunk of nail missing in the middle). So after a week of a sore finger, a shattered applesauce jar (Thankfully no glass in my then bare feet), mean people, and my usual brain-dead state, life started to look up again today. Jennifer surprised me with this coveted fabric. (She claims it was just scraps she won't use, but I secretly know it's just because she likes me so much!)

And, I get to leave for munich with Jenny in the morning. Although It's just a really short trip (we return monday night) I am in desperate need of it. So because life loves me so much right now.... It decided to let me end my day driving home in a hail storm....

Sorry if this post was a bummer, but I promise to be enthusiastic, upbeat, and optimistic next week. I will post a happy cheerful quilt for you that i have just finished! (binding and all.... it rarely happens) and maybe some nice pictures of Munich!!!

An afternoon of firsts

Have you ever thought to yourself when someone says they had a sewing machine needle go through their finger " how the heck is that possible?" Well that's what i've always thought. But today.... it happened. I guess i should have expected it. But anyways here is a really bad picture of it. I think it only broke through my nail and part of my finger.

The thing is though, it really didn't hurt that bad. It was more of a shock than anything. So after realizing what happened i ran to the bathroom to put my finger under water. I've never been upset when i've hurt myself before. I've handled it with no problem, but for some reason i began to feel really dizzy. So i went down on my knees while still running my finger under cold water. All the while thinking about how stupid this story will be when i tell it. So the next thing i knew i was dreaming the story. It was really nice until i realized i was laying on the bathroom floor having this dream. Which means it was the first time i've ever fainted as well. I guess the two things had to happen some time, so why not have it happen in the same day, right? Sorry if i threw this story up at you. I'm still a little confused and queasy, so i'm not really thinking straight....

Now that i look at my picture, i can't really see anything worth fainting over. I've had worst. But if you can't see the damage, it's on the right side of my finger.

May Day

Yesterday our little town had the raising of the May day pole. It was a great event and the weather could not have been more perfect. I was finally able to just sit and enjoy the sun, our neighbor was even nice enough to point out how white I was.

The town dancers decorated the pole to some traditional German music, and the band was wearing all the traditional outfits as well. There was beer, brats, and just a lot of fun.

here is what i'm working on now. corinnea has inspired me to do what i've been dreaming of forever. She pulled out her awesome zig zag quilt reminding me of the rainbow one that was lost in my mind. So here is a little sneak preview...

My new favorite quilt

It's finally finished!! I'm in love with it. It's filled with my favorite fabrics, and critters, and, most importantly, makes me smile!

It isn't completely finished, and knowing me, probably won't be for another year, or at least three months. It is made up of four blocks of five different patterns (this is because I've finally come to the realization that I can get four of the same blocks done until I get bored and have to put it away).

Because it's my new favorite I have to enter it into the awesome quilt festival that closes today. I hope i'm not too late...

Jenny and I went to an expo at the stuttgart messe today! and it was so much fun, I'll let her tell you all about it because I just want to show you my goodies! this is a pile of some of the stuff I got. If I had known what I was going to, then my wallet would have been stuffed just a little bit better...

Also! My dad got back from Africa yesterday and surprised me with these lovelies when I came home from the expo...

He bought them from a lady in the market who said she had made them herself! They made of paper (magazine I think) and are so cool. (His only request was that I keep them out of my mouth. Apparently I tend to chew on my jewelry....?)

But in other news I quilted my Anna Maria Horner quilt. All that's left now is the dreaded binding...

I've been eyeing these paper and acrylic collages for a really long time. I decided to go ahead and take the jump this weekend and make one. It was my first time ever using canvas and won't be the last. So here is the outcome, and I must say that I am very impressed with myself!

Spring Yet?

As much as I love snow and coldish weather.... I am ready for spring. So to help encourage it's coming I made a welcome bag. I thought by wearing it the nice weather would hurry up. Unfortunately, the straps won't fit over my bulky jacket. Which means I have to actually wait till spring to wear it.

Since I couldn't wear the bag I had to make something cheerful to wear. So I made a bright shiny necklace.

Now everyone will be able to see my neck from a mile away with those awesome huge metallic pearls! I just hope spring does too!

Gift and a bag

I'm sorry I haven't been able to post this sooner... if only I was more motivated. First I have my secret santa gift who I was so lucky as to have jennifer. I think she made an excellent santa, and I swear she knows me so well... you can tell just by looking at the gift. She went through the trouble of covering a box in my favorite paper that has little whales all over it. I also received an awesome pattern from Melly and Me, and some japanese fabric that I have been eyeing for a really long time (and was obviously vocal about).

Next I have my Weekender Bag! I finished it almost a month ago and i'm just now announcing it. I did a pretty bad job... but aside from the puckering, the bad cording, and the awful lining, i'm proud of it. I took it to the states with me as a carry on, and I felt so proud of my accomplishment.

And something really really cool happened to me yesterday. I was in one of my not so lovely moods and feeling really tired because i started school again this week. So after cutting some fabric for a lady she thanked me and gave me a fused glass pin! She said that she wanted to thank me by giving me something she makes! I think it is the best thing ever and for the rest of the day i was in a good mood. So i now know it's true that one small act of kindness really can make a difference for someone.

I think most of you have seen them but i have some bead animals i made. There are two frogs, two octopuses, a turtle, and a really cute mushroom.

Okay Yes I KNOW! i'm a terrible blogger. But i'm sitting down tonight and writing a new post! YAY!!!! So i gave a sneak peek of this quilt and I have finally finished it. (who knew that being sick could make me so productive?) Here it is.... I really really like it even though it was a pain in the butt to make, but it really pops which is totally my style.

And this is a quilt i made from the Nest jellyroll that i had been eyeing ever since it "stepped foot" in the store. I'm really glad i did finally break down and buy because i adore the fabric! i used the pattern from the book Jelly Roll Quilts that is a really great book because , of course, it has a lot of pictures ( good for those who read something and think "HUH?" like i do).

Okay so thanks to all of those wonderful people out there who tell me everyday how many weeks it's been since my last post. Without you i probably would have stopped. what a shame.

Beads

So since i had the day off today because i'm currently carless, which turned out to be good because i'm sick today and wouldn't have been able to come in anyways, i decided to finally get off the couch and make something. So i looked through what little glass i have left and realized that i have never really done anything with purple. I took all my purple glass as you can see below...

And i decided to make what i think is a really cool set of beads. The purple is really much prettier than the picture shows just to let you know. I think i should get a bigger and better camera.....hmmmm.

Okay i would first like to thank everyone who has dropped little hints as to the fact that i have not written a new blog entry in like...yes i know...forever! So here it finally is, and hopefully i will start posting things more often. I thought i would share with you my newest expensive hobby i have taken up. This first quilt is a Turning Twenty that i used our new line of fabric from K& Company with. I don't think i like it because i realized after i made it that it wasn't my style. Oh Well!

Next i have the quilt that i made for my bed. The pattern is from "Sew Hip" and i absolutely love it! Probably because it is well...my style.

Finally is the project i'm currently working on. It's the first block of four and i love how bold it is. If only the circle things weren't such a pain to make.

And YAY now nobody can say anything about me not blogging for at least a week. I hope.

Loverly Fishies

In honor of finishing my last week of classes tonight for term 4 at UMUC i decided to post my inbetween classes project. This is one of those started more than a year ago projects that never gets finished. I love to make things with fish on it so of course the bookshelf has alot... ALOT... of fish on it. So this week and next week i will bring it back out with my painting stuff and start working on it again.

Here is a close up of the pretty fishies. All of which i drew myself based on real fish from this book with like every fish in it from my snorkeling days in Okinawa.

I still haven't decided what to do on the sides of it so any help with ideas would be wonderful.

The Vase Rambling

At the request of Corinnea i decided to post my vase. One of the longest projects ever!!!! I hand built the vase using slabs of clay and then took more than a month to glaze it. I was unsure what the colors were going to do but i think i really like how they turned out. My favorite is the swirls on the side. I probably should have posted it sooner but i don't have the patience for the pictures to load! Anyways more to come later because i bought a whole tea set of bisque to glaze so that it matches my vase! Why i did that i don't know because i only like i think two types of tea. One of which i can only get in eqypt that i discovered while visiting there.

mushrooms, and owls, and flowers, OH MY

What could be a better way to start off a blog then with mushrooms that have owls sitting on them? Nothing! so here it is...

I decoupaged it with the cutest mushroom paper ever, and then used the cutest owl paper ever! The owl paper was even double sided, my pet peeve, and i managed not to get upset about not using the other side.
hmmm...maybe i shouldn't have posted this project first because it will make my other stuff look pathetic.
